Jetpack requires written approval for all products containing batteries before they can be stored and shipped through our fulfillment network. This policy ensures compliance with transportation regulations and warehouse safety standards.
Pre-Approval Mandatory: Products shipped to Jetpack fulfillment centers without proper battery approval may be returned to you at your cost or disposed of if deemed unsafe to ship back.

Battery Types & Requirements

Lithium-Ion Batteries

Lithium-ion batteries are the most common rechargeable batteries found in consumer electronics, power tools, and portable devices.
  • Specifications
  • Quantity Restrictions
Regulatory Classification:
  • UN Number: 3481
  • Packing Instruction: PI967 Section II
Size Limitations:
  • Cell limit: ≤20Wh (watt-hours)
  • Battery limit: ≤100Wh (watt-hours)
Storage Requirements:
  • Room temperature storage
  • No special handling equipment required
Lithium-ion batteries exceeding 100Wh are strictly prohibited and cannot be stored or shipped through Jetpack’s network under any circumstances.

Lithium Metal Batteries

Lithium metal batteries are non-rechargeable batteries commonly found in watches, cameras, and small electronics.
  • Specifications
  • Quantity Restrictions
Regulatory Classification:
  • UN Number: 3091
  • Packing Instruction: PI970 Section II
Size Limitations:
  • Cell limit: ≤1g (lithium content)
  • Battery limit: ≤2g (lithium content)
Storage Requirements:
  • Room temperature storage
  • No special handling equipment required

Dry Cell Alkaline Batteries

Common household batteries including AA, AAA, C, D, and 9V sizes. Approved Battery Types:
  • Alkali-manganese batteries
  • Zinc-carbon batteries
  • Nickel cadmium batteries
  • Nickel metal hydride batteries
Requirements:
  • Maximum voltage: Less than 9 volts per battery
  • Standard household battery sizes (AA, AAA, C, D)
  • 9V batteries allowed at maximum threshold
Required safety measures:
  • Hard plastic wrap covering terminals, OR
  • Pull-tab deactivation mechanism
  • Protection prevents short circuits during handling
  • Room temperature storage conditions
  • No refrigeration or climate control needed
  • Standard warehouse handling procedures

Vetting Process

All battery-containing products must complete a vetting process before approval.
1

Prepare Documentation

Gather the following materials:
  • Product MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet)
  • UN test documentation
  • Product specifications including battery details
2

Verify MSDS Currency

Ensure your MSDS is current and not expired. Jetpack cannot accept outdated safety documentation.
3

Submit to Merchant Care

Send all documentation to the Merchant Care team through your dashboard or via support ticket.
4

Await Written Approval

The compliance team will review your submission and provide written confirmation if approved.
5

Review Order Limitations

Your approval will specify the maximum number of battery products allowed per order (typically 2 products maximum).
The vetting process typically takes 3-5 business days. Do not create warehouse receiving orders or ship inventory until you receive written approval.

Packaging & Compliance

Packaging Configuration

Box Packaging Required: All battery-containing products must be configured to ship in box packaging (not poly mailers or envelopes).
Packaging Standards:
  • Inner packaging must be fully enclosed in rigid outer packaging
  • Products must be secured against movement during transit
  • Activation prevention measures required (on/off switches protected)
  • Sufficient cushioning to prevent battery damage

Labeling Requirements

Inbound Shipments:
  • Lithium battery warning labels required on all boxes
  • Labels must meet IATA/ICAO specifications
  • Proper handling labels visible on outer packaging
Outbound Orders:
  • Jetpack applies required lithium battery labels automatically
  • Compliance with carrier-specific requirements
  • Limited quantity markings when applicable

Regulatory Compliance

All battery shipments must comply with:
  • Air Transport
  • Ground Transport
ICAO/IATA Regulations:
  • International Civil Aviation Organization Technical Instructions
  • International Air Transport Association Dangerous Goods Regulations
  • Packing Instructions PI967/PI970 Section II
